Horsewood Side Effects: What to Know Before You Start

Quick answer

Horsewood side effects are best checked ingredient by ingredient, and each amount is small.

Horny goat weed has heart-rhythm case reports and drug interactions. If you take nitrates or blood-pressure drugs, ask a doctor first, and buy only from the official seller.

To see if it suits you, read who Horsewood is for.

Is Horsewood safe? What is known and what is not

Horsewood has not been tested for safety as a finished product. No trial has measured how often it causes side effects. What we can check is each of the seven ingredients on the label.

The label prints every amount, and all of them are small. That lowers some risks but does not remove them. Several ingredients have little human safety data at all.

Horny goat weed in Horsewood: heart rhythm and drug interactions

Horny goat weed is the ingredient in Horsewood with the clearest safety flags. Memorial Sloan Kettering lists case reports of heart-rhythm problems linked to epimedium, the plant behind it. It also lists interactions with prescription drugs (MSKCC, 2023).

One named interaction is with aromatase inhibitors. These are drugs some men and women take to lower estrogen. The same source says any benefit for sexual function is unproven.

The label gives 8 mg of a 10:1 extract. It does not state the icariin content. In a 5-day human study, icariin was barely absorbed, and the top dose of 1,680 mg a day caused stomach upset (Brown et al., 2019).

Heart rhythm. If you have ever had a heart-rhythm problem, or you take an aromatase inhibitor, ask your doctor before your first capsule.

Horsewood with nitrates and blood-pressure medicines

Men on nitrates or blood-pressure medicine should talk to a doctor before taking Horsewood. Nitrates treat chest pain, and some products in this category can make blood pressure drop fast. Your doctor knows your full list of medicines.

Bring the bottle to your visit. The label panel lists all seven actives and the other ingredients in one place.

Medicines to raise with your doctor

  • Nitrates, such as nitroglycerin
  • Blood-pressure medicines of any kind
  • Heart-rhythm medicines
  • Blood thinners
  • Hormone therapy, including testosterone
  • Aromatase inhibitors

How much boron does Horsewood add?

Horsewood lists 20 mg of boron amino acid chelate per serving. The label does not say how much elemental boron is inside that chelate. The chelate weight includes the amino acid, so the boron itself is some smaller share.

The adult upper limit is 20 mg of elemental boron a day from all sources. US adults get about 1 mg a day from food (NIH ODS, 2022). The risk comes from stacking products.

  • Check other supplements for boron before you add this one.
  • Multivitamins and bone or joint formulas often list it.
  • Add up the elemental boron where labels state it.
  • Ask a pharmacist if a label only lists a chelate weight.

Hidden-drug risk in male enhancement supplements, and where Horsewood fits

The FDA has found hidden prescription drugs in many sexual-enhancement supplements. It warns that its public list covers only a fraction of them (FDA, 2026). In one case, a product sold as natural hid drugs that can drop blood pressure in men on nitrates (FDA, 2026).

The NCCIH gives the same warning about this product group (NCCIH, 2019). We have no evidence of any hidden drug in Horsewood. The concern is the wider market, including copies and resold stock.

Is Horsewood FDA approved?

No. The FDA does not approve dietary supplements before they go on sale (FDA, 2026). Makers, not the FDA, are responsible for safety before a product is sold (FDA, 2026).

The Horsewood label says it is made in an FDA-registered facility. Registration describes the factory. It is not a review of the capsule or its claims.

What the label promises, and what it does not

  • Every active amount per serving is printed
  • Made in an FDA-registered facility (the factory, not the product)
  • Carries the standard FDA disclaimer
  • Makes no claim that it treats any condition

Who should not take Horsewood?

Horsewood is for healthy adult men 18 and over. The label says pregnant or nursing mothers, children under 18 and anyone with a known medical condition should consult a physician first. It also says not to exceed the recommended dose.

Under 18

The label rules out children and teens. Keep the bottle out of their reach.

Heart concerns

Past heart-rhythm problems or heart medicines need a doctor's view first.

Hormone-related care

Men on hormone therapy or an aromatase inhibitor should ask before use.

Avoid animal products?

Gelatin is listed under other ingredients. Check it against your diet.

Erection problems and your heart: see a doctor before Horsewood

New or lasting erection problems can be an early sign of heart disease. A doctor can check blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol. A supplement like Horsewood is not a substitute for that visit.

Horsewood is a dietary supplement, not a medicine. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Get checked first, then decide about supplements with your doctor.

Do not wait. Sudden changes, pain, or problems that come with chest discomfort or shortness of breath need prompt medical care.

What to do if you get side effects on Horsewood

Stop taking Horsewood if you notice a side effect. Most mild problems, such as an upset stomach, should settle once you stop. Call your doctor if they do not.
